The German Design Council has awarded the ‘Best of Best’ prize to the PIPELINE project, a pneumatic structure developed by Dosis, in the 2021 edition of the Iconic Awards: Innovative Architecture.
The Iconic Awards is the first independent international architecture and design competition. The awards consider the interaction between various disciplines, focusing on holistic production, and the interaction between the architecture-related professions.
The German Design Council is one of the most prestigious design and architecture centres globally, acting as a link between designers and the construction industry. Its awards are considered an independent seal of quality of international prestige, marking contemporary developments and creative achievements.
This year’s distinguished construction as ‘Best of Best’, the Pipeline by Dosis, is an ultralight and reconfigurable structure based on the concept of nomadic architecture. Its first use was T the Kenzo AW20 show in Paris, in February 2020. The Kenzo collection was inspired by nomadism and travel, so the space where it was presented needed to reflect the same spirit. It is a structure that not only adapts dynamically to each situation and location, it also changes depending on the conditions of the ecosystem that houses it.
Among other materials, Dosis has used Expafol’s Clearfol® HT 650 FR for the construction to cover the structure. This flexible PVC glass has excellent transparency, for optimal visibility and integration with the surrounding environment. It is also a highly resistant material to UV rays, and it is fire retardant.
